Cléria tinha 40 anos e enfrentava alguns problemas pessoais. Como forma de lidar com o momento, começou a praticar natação e acabou tomando gosto pelo esporte. O marido, Nelson, entrou no embalo e sugeriu que passassem a correr juntos. E começaram do zero. “Quando conseguimos passar de 1 km, foi uma alegria”, lembra ele.
Hoje, aos 65 e 63 anos, Nelson e Cléria têm uma sala da casa dedicada às medalhas e troféus conquistados em mais de 500 provas. Ambos correm, e Cléria também nada: saiu das piscinas para encarar travessias em mar aberto, rios e represas. Nas disputas aquáticas, Nelson atua apenas como equipe de apoio.
No início, participavam de eventos e provas apenas em São Bernardo do Campo (SP), onde vivem, e na capital paulista – da tradicional Corrida de São Silvestre, por exemplo, já participaram seis vezes. Com o tempo, veio a vontade de ir mais longe. Por indicação do filho, Bruno, descobriram o Airbnb como a opção mais prática para encontrar a estadia perfeita durante as viagens.
“A gente não tinha intimidade com a plataforma, mas fomos aprendendo”, conta Nelson. “Hoje, é automático: quando decidimos participar de uma prova, já abrimos o site ou o app para escolher onde ficar”, explica.
Nessas aventuras, o casal já desbravou o estado de São Paulo, interior e litoral, participando de provas marcantes como a Travessia 14 Bis, tradicional ultramaratona aquática que acontece entre Bertioga e Santos.
Pelo Brasil, estiveram em cidades como Natal (RN), Florianópolis (SC) e Rio de Janeiro (RJ). No exterior, a lista inclui experiências na América do Sul, Europa e Estados Unidos. “No Airbnb encontramos o que a gente precisa: dá para encontrar lugares bem perto da largada, o que facilita demais pra gente. Como a saída costuma ser entre 5h e 7h, ficar longe complica. E é ótimo ter cozinha, porque a gente consegue preparar o que comer e seguir nossa dieta para as provas”, diz Cléria.
Os dois também apreciam as experiências diferentes e até inusitadas que tiveram em estadias reservadas pelo Airbnb. “Já ficamos em cima de um posto de gasolina na Rodovia Rio-Santos, em um retiro espiritual em Porto Alegre e em uma casa histórica reformada em Lisboa”, lembra Nelson. “Também gostamos de conversar com os anfitriões se eles estão por perto”, completa.
Em 2026, o casal já tem inscrições e viagens marcadas para uma corrida de montanha em São Bento do Sapucaí (SP) e para a maratona de Chicago, nos EUA. Agora só falta escolher os espaços em que irão ficar no Airbnb.
